Overview of the IML Process
The sheet with patterns, patterns, text and LOGO printed on the inner surface is hot-pressed into the 3D shape of the product, and then the outer shape and inner hole are punched out and placed in the injection mold cavity (mold) for injection molding. The molten resin and the sheet are combined to form a whole and solidified into a product. This molding method is called IML (In Mold Label) process.
The very significant characteristics of this process are: the surface is a hardened transparent film, the middle is a printed pattern layer, and the back is a plastic layer. Because the ink is sandwiched in the middle, the product can prevent the surface from being scratched and has good wear resistance, and can keep the color bright for a long time and not easy to fade.

Advantages of IML
1. Enhanced Durability
IML labels are resistant to abrasion, moisture, and chemicals, making them ideal for harsh environments.
2. Cost Efficiency
Eliminates post-production labeling steps, reducing labor and time costs.
3. Eco-Friendly
Uses recyclable materials, aligning with sustainability goals.
Disadvantages of IML
1. High Initial Costs
Custom molds and specialized equipment require significant upfront investment.
2. Design Limitations
Complex shapes may challenge label placement accuracy.
3. Longer Production Cycles
Integration of labels during molding can slow down manufacturing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is IML suitable for food packaging?
Yes, IML is FDA-compliant and widely used for containers, yogurt pots, and lids.
How does IML compare to traditional labeling?
IML offers superior durability but requires higher initial setup costs.
Can IML labels be recycled?
Yes, if the label and base material are compatible (e.g., PP labels on PP products).
